History

Pancyprian Offshore Nautical Club (PONATHA) was founded in 1980 and was legally established (Reg. No. 2012) as a club according to Cyprus law in 2000. The club is based in the marina of Larnaca but its members are all over Cyprus.

PONATHA is one of the largest nautical clubs in Cyprus and one of the first offshore sailing clubs. It runs a successful sailing academy on Offshore Navigation and Sailing for more than 35 years. Comprehensive courses on navigation, maritime, basic safety, and offshore sailing are delivered. The classes consist of theoretical and practical exercises and are designed to be intensive. The students participate in a number of practical exercises onboard sailing yachts. From time to time PONATHA organises trips around Cyprus as well as abroad, such as to the Greek islands.

PONATHA also actively supports the competition between the club members. Sailing Race events are organised regularly and the academy graduates are encouraged to join a yacht sailing racing team.
